Back to Green: Shifting Out of the Red Zone

August 15, 20251 min read

Ever get stuck in the red zone? Tense. Tight. Angry. Overthinking.
Athletes, parents, coaches—we all feel it.
And when we’re in the red, we tend to ask
why?

To quote Buzz Lightyear—“To infinity and beyond.”
(Okay, I’m toying with you.)
But seriously, the self-talk starts:
“Not good enough. Soft. I suck. I shouldn’t be here.”
Spiraling—not like a notebook, like a tornado.

There are two real reasons you're in the red:
You care… and you’re human.
Searching for more answers in that moment only leads to destruction.
The time to learn is
after the game.

That’s it. Nothing more.
If you stop there, problem solving can begin.

The better question is: How?
How do I get back to green?

In a game, nothing else matters—except the shift.

That’s where mental fitness comes in.

You train for the how.
You plan.
You reboot.
You use your Inner Balance breathing.
You focus on what you can do well—right now.

We all slip into the red. It’s human.
The GOATs know how to get back to green.

Change the conversation to mental fitness.
Reach out to find out how we can help you shift the conversation—and make that change last.
