Today, we’re talking about a nerve that’s getting a lot of buzz: the vagus nerve.
It’s a gamble—V-A-G-U-S—but what happens in the vagus nerve doesn’t stay there. It impacts mood, digestion, breathing, and heart rate—basically, it’s the ultimate body multitasker.
Think of it as the transmission of your brain, running the autonomic nervous system. It manages:
Sympathetic (danger mode)
Parasympathetic (chill mode)
Enteric (your gut brain)
Low vagal tone—when your vagus nerve isn’t working well—is linked to anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more. When life is chaotic, we get stuck in fight, flight, or freeze, and our heart rate variability (HRV) drops.
So how do we fix it? Boost vagal tone by adding relaxation: yoga, tai chi, meditation, breathing exercises, and HRV training. Even fun hacks like gargling, humming, or chanting work. I hum Let It Be. Try it!
But the simplest way? Connect with others. Spend time with people who make your heart and face smile. Social interaction is the OG vagus nerve hack.
Together, we can change the conversation to mental fitness. Don’t gamble—hire us for a keynote, training, or sign up for one-on-one coaching.
