Composure. It’s cool.
Everyone loves the idea of being clutch, but clutch starts with composure. It’s a shift in gears. Not zero emotion. Not pretending you don’t care. Just staying steady enough to use your skills under pressure.
Think of composure as being C.O.O.L.
C – Choose your response.
You can’t choose what happens, but you can choose how you respond. One breath. One thought. One action. Ask yourself, “What’s important now?” Hold yourself to that standard.
O – Own what happened and the emotions that go with it.
Name it to tame it. Then start problem solving.
O – Open to the moment.
Open yourself to the opportunity in the moment. Direct your attention to even the hidden opportunities. Sometimes it may feel like there aren’t any. Stay open anyway.
L – Lock into green.
Return to your routine. Your breath. Your anchor statement. Your fundamentals. Let your body do what you’ve trained it to do.
Composure is a trainable skill.
If you want to be C.O.O.L. under pressure as an athlete or leader, we can help through a keynote, team training, or one on one coaching. Reach out, and let’s train your composure on purpose, not by accident.
