The Self- Doubt Awareness Ladder

September 11, 20261 min read

An Awareness Ladder is a step-by-step guide that helps you recognize the slide into self-doubt—and the climb back to confidence.

Too often, we don't see the in-between.

This exercise will help you.

You can't redirect and climb back if you don't know the steps on your Self-Doubt/Anger Ladder.

Here's an example one athlete created:

1 – Calm. In control.
2 – Low energy. Going through the motions. Not engaged.
3 – Not creating impact. Reacting instead of initiating.
4 – Things keep going against you. Wanting to withdraw.
5 – Making decisions that hurt your team. Irritation rising.
6 – "Why is this happening?" Fear of not getting back.
7 – Blaming others.
8 – Feeling screwed.
9 – Slamming doors. "I'm wasting my time."
10 – Total anger. "I'll never make it." Total shutdown.

Here's the skill:

Notice what rung you're on.

Name it. Rate it.

Then climb one step by choosing one thing that moves you up.

Awareness is the first step to changing your state.

If you want to build and use awareness, we can help through a keynote, training, or one-on-one coaching.

Reach out and learn how to recognize your Self-Doubt/Anger Ladder—so you can move off it.
