The Mental Fitness Combine

December 12, 20251 min read

Every major sport has a combine — where talent gets timed, weighed, and measured.

40-yard dash. Vertical jump. Bench press. Height. Weight.
But they’re not
International Harvesters.

My uncle’s combine? That’s a better harvester.

Because here’s the truth: Combines aren’t always great predictors.

In 2007, first overall pick JaMarcus Russell could throw a football 60 yards from his knees.
His measurables
wowed everyone.
He played two years in the NFL.

Tom Brady? Sixth-round pick.
Enough said.

Mental fitness doesn’t have a combine (or a tractor).

Ask any coach or GM — heart, grit, consistency make a player great.
You can’t time confidence under pressure.

So how do you measure your mental fitness?
With common sense.

Rate yourself — and have a coach, teammate, or parent rate you — from 1 to 10.
Then discuss, compare, and talk about
why.

Here’s where to start:

  • Do you self-forgive and let go?

  • Do you know who you are — and does that person show up under pressure?

  • Do your smart habits help you get better every day?

  • Do you define and live your values?

  • Do you learn from failure?

  • Do you have expensive confidence?

A conversation will do you good.
They create connection.

Change the conversation to mental fitness.
Let’s schedule a keynote, training, group, or one-on-one session.
Take action — and have conversations that create lasting change for you, your team, and the world around you.
