What stresses you out?
Expectations? No time? Injuries, nutrition, relationships, friends, family, the future?
What is the definition of stress? Most simply, it’s something you have to do something about or make a decision about. Some stress seems easy. Basic human nature is to think you should avoid it or ignore it. That works for a little while. Then it comes back to haunt you in some way.
Kelly McGonigal’s book The Upside of Stress is powerful. It argues that what you believe about stress is what matters most.
People who see stress as their body helping them rise to a challenge stay healthier and even live longer.
Her work shows that this belief literally changes your biology, shifting your stress response toward growth, not breakdown.
Instead of “Stress is killing me,” try:
“I can use this and get through it.”
Make stress your friend, then channel it into the next right action.
Don’t stress if you can’t read the book. She also has a TED Talk titled How to Make Stress Your Friend. Check it out.
