Grief, Love and Mental Fitness

February 28, 20251 min read

Grief and Loss. It’s something we all face.

Practicing mental fitness builds the skills we need to live through grief. It’s not about avoiding the pain—it’s about moving with it.

A close friend of mine, Andrew Cooper, recently lost his sister, Lisa Diffley, to cancer. I didn’t know her, but I know she was deeply loved. She was a mom to a 12-year-old and an 8-year-old. For kids, grief is even harder. That’s why I’m sharing their GoFundMe—because mental fitness is also about taking care of our community. If you can give, please do.

Grief isn’t linear. It moves in a loop—anger, despair, detachment—fading but never fully leaving. Fresh losses trigger old ones. We’re told to "stay strong," to hold it in. But buried emotions don’t disappear; they explode, shutting us down or sending us into overthinking.

The truth? We need each other. Connection matters. Mental fitness means understanding your personal grief loop—what triggers it, how it moves, how it changes. Over time, it softens. That doesn’t mean you don’t care; it means you’re carrying it forward.

Let’s shift the conversation. Grief is okay. It’s the cost of loving well. My thoughts and prayers are with Lisa’s family and friends.
