Adjust the Recipe

January 23, 20261 min read

Habits are like recipes.
One ingredient can be game-changing.

Where do you look to make adjustments in your recipe of habits?

My grandma made incredible Scotcheroos.
Great doesn’t mean untouchable.

My grandma used a cup and a quarter of peanut butter instead of a cup and a half.
Adjusting doesn’t mean canceling.

I adjusted.
Ghirardelli chocolate chips and creamy JIF peanut butter chipped in for a smooth but great change.

I can make them from memory — in 20 minutes or less.
Using different bowls, measuring cups, and pans made it faster.
It made it easier to share with the important people in my life.

My grandma’s recipe wasn’t bad.
I just knew it could be better.
She never would have bought Ghirardelli chips.

Habits are the same.

It’s a powerful way to think about change —
If you’re willing to be creative, flexible, and experiment with your plan, you can make changes.

It takes a willingness to accept that some adjustments won’t work.

If it doesn’t turn out, it’s a result — information for learning.
It’s a willingness to take risks in order to grow.
It’s not personal.
