Mental Fitness Fridays: Spotlight on Caitlin Clark

April 12, 20241 min read

This is Mental Fitness Fridays.

The Iowa South Carolina Natty game was the largest viewed basketball game since 2019.

Changes in attitude see women as equal, strong, capable, composed.

It’s a charging change.

Caitlin is not the only reason. She’s shown all those qualities. That’s amazing.  I watched a first-year player from Minnesota come in and carry South Carolina.  I learned, Dawn Staley, the South Carolina head coach creates relationships with significant people in her players’ life.

Both are examples of mental fitness.

Cheryl Miller, Billy Jean King, Candace Parker, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, paved the way for Caitlin and Paige.

They all are amazing - not perfect

Let’s beat the trolls to the punch. Not the bowl.

We find a hero - then tear them down. Why? Someone else's greatness scares us that we are missing our own.

The ordinary girl from Iowa did it. Why can't I?

In the me over we era we live in, she could have transferred anywhere to win a Natty. She didn’t. Acknowledging her skill, charisma, and presence doesn't diminish others. Valuing women's sports doesn't diminish men's sports. Instead it can push us to change the conversation to mental fitness.

I'd love to do a keynote to help you and your organization work to do the same. Together we can. Share us wherever you can.
