Smiles

Smiles. It's a long word. Why? There's a mile in it.
Welcome to Mental Fitness Fridays. I'm Hans Skulstad.
I was meeting with my team of people who are helping me to expand my impact and reach. The meeting wrote today's post. Here's what happened.
One of them said, “You start every meeting with jokes.”
“Duh,” I said.
Then I said: “You should start every meeting with a joke, or a laugh or a smile. You should probably start every interaction with anyone that way.”
We all love smiles. Think about trying to make a baby smile. Research shows that it takes less energy to smile than to frown. Smiles go miles in picking people up. We know and learned from the pandemic how vital and important human connection is.
I love starting meetings with a joke. Unlike my wife and my son, they still laugh. I love to see them smile because it makes me smile and laugh. It's fun. Smiles put us in a state of high coherence.
Here's my challenge to you. Start every meeting or interaction with others with a smile. There's no cost. Even if you have to force it, that's ok. It might start the shift you need to make to get out of your head. Or, it might start that in someone else.
We've talked about this before. You are at an event. You run into someone you haven't seen for a long time. Your body language changes. You both light up and smile — maybe you even hug.
It's like the song. I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. I'd like to hold it in my arms and keep it company.
