What did the light bulb say to the switch? You turn me on. LOL. This is Mental Fitness Fridays and I'm Hans.
Neon Deion. He's turned on Colorado. He's turned around a program fast — like him. Critics said it couldn't be done. In the old college football model it would be true. Things changed — NIL, the transfer portal.
There is more to the story.
He's charismatic and confident. He knows who he is. He speaks the kids' language, which gets them to play hard for him. Street cred. Played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Braves. NEON Deion. Bright. In your face. Challenging. Not afraid of the spotlight.
Some people have a hard time with his approach. It challenges the myths and the traps. He believes in what he is doing and his purpose — important Mental Fitness Foundations. His faith is his North Star. A recent theme with my athletes has been — it's safe to believe in yourself. Often the fear is that doing so will result in becoming a cocky, arrogant SOB which creates a catch 22.
Coach Prime has a quote on his Instagram that says "Don’t allow my CONFIDENCE to offend your INSECURITY."
This summarizes why people struggle with this belief. It's possible to be confident without being a jerk. Strive for mental fitness — use the 5 star mindset. Challenge and compete with yourself, self-forgive, learn from failure, and get comfortable with the uncomfortable. Amazing and confident does not mean perfect.
